This portion of the site is designed to allow for an interaction between those with questions about the entertainment industry and those who have the answers. Basically, we invite anyone to submit a question to the SOLID membership by sending an email to: eMentoring@solidnashville.com. Once your question is approved and posted, SOLID members will have the opportunity to make comments and that will be the beginning of a conversation that will shed some light on the topic.

It’s our hope that this eMentoring page will bridge the gap between students/individuals with interest in the entertainment industry and our organization. One of SOLID’s core principles is to help others. We hope this section of our site will help us take that idea one step further.

re: Mechanical License vs. Performance License

Within the music industry, a mechanical licence gives the holder permission to create copies of a recorded song which they did not write and/or do not have copyright over. It is an agreement with the copyright holder, the publisher, or the songwriter that allows the holder to reproduce the sound recording. A performance license grants the music user the permission of the copyright holders to use their copyright in a public place or business. The phrase "to enhance the users business" is commonly used.
